Youth Education takes place on Wednesdays as part of our Act(s) 2 ministry. As we learn in Acts of the Apostles, chapter 2, the first Christians would gather together for food, community, learning, and worship. Through those gatherings they learned how to be faithful disciples and how to be the church.
Following dinner, served from 5:00-6:00 pm, we provide an hour of education for youth of all ages from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. At 7:00 pm we gather together as a large group for Sanctuary, a time for music, Word, and prayer. You'll find the registration form here.
St. Mark’s aims to teach children about God’s love for the world, God’s love for them, and how to love the world God has made. It is through learning these things that children grow up to be faithful adults that led healthy lives and make a positive impact on the world around them. Wednesday Church School, Confirmation, and Youth Group meet from 6:00-7:00pm.
Wednesday Church School (Pre-K - 6th Grade)
Children in Wednesday Church School will explore the stories of the Bible to learn about the many ways God’s love is revealed in scripture and the world around them.
Confirmation (7th & 8th Grade)
Confirmation is a time for students to learn more about the theology of the Lutheran Church and key concepts in scripture. It is also a chance to ask tough questions and to think critically about the intersection of faith and life. In the fall of their 9th grade year Confirmands will be given the opportunity to affirm the promises of their baptism.
High School Youth Group (9th-12th Grade)
Youth Group is an opportunity for high schoolers to nurture and strengthen their faith during this exciting but challenge time of life. Youth Group is a time to fun, education, and service. It is also a place to share and process the ups and downs of life in an affirming and encouraging environment. Throughout the year there several special events and outings, in addition to annual mission trips and adventures.
2022 ELCA National Youth Gathering (8th-12th Grade)
Every three years, 30,000 high school youth and their adult leaders from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America gather for a week of faith formation known as the ELCA Youth Gathering. Through days spent in interactive learning, worship, Bible study, service and fellowship, young people grow in faith and are challenged and inspired to live their faith in their daily lives. The 2022 Gathering will be held right in our own backyard, Minneapolis!
Students who are in 8-12th grade during the 2021-22 school year are encouraged to be a part of St. Mark’s Youth Gathering group. This group will meet one Saturday a month from October to July in preparation for the Gathering. In addition to the monthly meetings there will also be various fundraisers and events that participants will be required to be a part of. Contact Pastor David for information about registration.
What about Sunday School?
You might be wondering, “What about Sunday School? What is there for my child on Sunday mornings?” One of the most important factors in determining whether or not a child will have an active faith as an adult is participation in worship as a child. Children who worship regularly with their families are more likely to have an active and engaged faith as an adult.
We invite you to bring your children with you to worship Sunday mornings and to bring them to Act(s) 2 on Wednesday nights. During worship, small activity bags available in the Narthex.
